A getaway in Val di Fassa

Val di Fassa is our favorite place in the Dolomites and is the perfect location for a quick getaway. Countless ski slopes, amazing sporting events, but also some of the most suggestive hikings, the Val di Fassa is really suitable for everyone: families, friends, couples. Remember to satisfy even the tastiest side of your holiday: here you can taste many typical products, maybe in some mountain huts.

Moena, the getaway of Val di Fassa

Located in the heart of the enchanting Dolomites and surrounded by such mighty mountains as the Catinaccio, Sassolungo, Monzoni and Latemar, Moena is actually the gateway of the Val di Fassa.

In addition to its natural treasures and a number of sports facilities, Moena has a lot to offer also from a cultural point of view. 

Puzzone di Moena DOP Festival

This time we visited Moena during the Puzzone di Moena DOP Festival, the most tasteful festival of the autumn season in Trentino. 

Every year, for three days in mid-September, you will find a rich program of events to celebrate this delicious cheese called ‘Puzzone’.

• Guided visits at the discovery of the secrets of the cheese making;
• Animated wallks through the stables of the village, to meet the farmers and their cows at their return from the pastures;
• Guided tastings for cheese lovers and foodies;
• AperiTour through the most fascinating corners of the Fairy of the Dolomites, where the cheese meets the wines from the region.

And we actually did all of these activities! 

On Friday we had an amazing dinner at Agritur El Mas, a farmhouse in the heart of Moena where everything is grown and produced locally. On Saturday we took part in an adventurous hike with various culinary stops along the way, such as the typical lunch at Malga Roncac. Finally, when we came back to the town center we joined a guided cheese tasting to discover all the secrets behind the renowned Puzzone di Moena DOP.

The eco green house Fiores

On the last day of our trip we visited Agritur Fiores, an eco green house immersed in the greenery of the Dolomites. Built mainly with wood featuring impressive tall glass windows, it offers a magnificent view of Pozza di Fassa and both Catinaccio and Sassolungo mountain ranges, which appear so close you can almost touch it. Rifugio Fuciade

Before leaving Val di Fassa we spent a few more hours at Rifugio Fuciade, a scenic mountain retreat with rustic rooms and amazing local food.
