If you want to stay in a hotel that captures the romantic soul of Venice, then Hotel Palazzo Barbarigo is the perfect hotel for you.
This converted 16th-century Venetian palazzo with Twenties deco chic features dramatic contemporary furnishings, feathered lampshades and smoky mirrors that come together to create a unique atmosphere.
Also, Hotel Palazzo Barbarigo is located right by the Canal Grande (i.e. Grand Canal), the main waterway of Venice, so you will get a beautiful view of passing gondolas all day.
If you want to arrive to the hotel in style, you can do it by boat as Hotel Palazzo Barbarigo is equipped with a private dock at its main entrance. This is actually the best option, as the entrance from land is counter intuitive. It is a narrow yet creepy alley with no lightning at night.
Oh, and listen to what we discovered on the last day and didn’t use – there is a gondola right by the hotel crossing the river for only 2€. If you don’t want to walk to Rialto, you can cross here and get a gondola quick ride. And then you can say that you’ve been on a gondola without having to spend a fortune!
Finally, the location of the hotel is perfect because it’s far enough away from the crowds of Piazza San Marco but an easy ten minutes walk to the Rialto Bridge.
The staff was very accommodating and attentive! We were welcomed to our room with a bottle of champagne and fresh fruits… What a magnificent way to start your stay in Venice! The service level is overall very high and you really feel at home at Palazzo Barbarigo.
It may have to do with the hotel being owned by the same family for many generations, so they treat their staff and their guests as family. If you do not know where to go, what to see and where to eat in Venice, then ask the staff! They are happy to help you with your itinerary.
Facilities
Hotel Palazzo Barbarigo has 2 floors and 18 rooms and junior suites overlooking the Grand Canal or the Rio San Polo. The rooms are excellent: silk wallpapers, lovely velvet seatings, incredibly comfortable bed and luxurious bathroom. They are definitely five-star luxury comfort all the way. And then, can you imagine how beautiful it is to open the window and look directly onto the Grand Canal?
The hotel does not have a restaurant but there are countless restaurants, cafés and most importantly, gelaterias on every corner!
It has, however, a very relaxed bar area that looks like a decidedly slinky spot to sink a few martinis or expertly mixed Barbarigo cocktails.
And then… should we even talk about breakfast? It is just out of this world! Served in an intimate outdoor balcony, it includes pastries, fruits, baked goods, drinks and, most importantly, a view that you will not forget anytime soon.
