Stuttgart – what do you think, when you hear this city’s name? Stuttgart is a city that really likes the motto “quality over quantity”, as it is not a place where you have to rush from one sight to the next. However, there are some places and buildings that left us speechless and we are ready to tell you more about the things that are worth seeing – from sights and restaurants to the best views of the city.
Schlossplatz (or Palace Square) is the largest and most impressive square in Stuttgart. We instantly loved this square because of how wide open it is. Here you can find the Neues Schloss (New Castle), the Königsbau mall, the Art Museum (Kunstmuseum) and the Alte Kanzlei (previous office of the chancellor). Plus, the observation wheel is truly one-of-a-kind!
Discover the German luxury automobile at the Porsche Museum. Founded in 1931, the Porsche brand is synonymous with high-performance sports cars and like the Mercedes-Benz Museum, the Porsche Museum incorporates technology to make it an interesting experience for everyone.
The Stadtbibliothek Stuttgart – City Library is probably the most photographed building in the whole city. Opened in October 2011, this symmetrical masterpiece was designed by the Korean architect Eun Young Yi. When you first see pictures of the library, you almost suspect that it is a computer rendering, but we can assure you that the library really does look so beautiful.
Just outside of downtown Stuttgart lies the Grabkapelle chapel, a 19th-century mausoleum. Located on the top of Württemberg, this place hosts what is probably the most beautiful view over Stuttgart’s vineyards and the Neckar valley.
Something really cool and worth seeing is the historic market hall in the city centre. We always love visiting markets all around the world and we can assure you that the Stuttgart Markthalle is definitely one of the coolest we’ve been to. There is everything here: fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, wines, spices, cheeses… and more!
There are countless lookout points in Stuttgart, from which you have a great view of the city – especially at sunset, when locals and tourists flock to the hills.
The TV tower is one of those and it’s one of the most famous city’s landmarks. The view from the world’s first television tower is simply mind blowing. Can definitely recommend this spot!
The Karlshöhe is one of the most visited lookout points in Stuttgart. We think you can clearly understand why. Look how beautiful!
The Feuersee lake with St. John’s Church is a highlight all year round. We loved visiting this place in the autumn as the foliage here was just insane. We find it to be one of the most romantic places in all of Stuttgart.
The Stuttgart Museum of Art is a work of art on its own. Located right in the heart of the city centre, this is a contemporary and modern museum. The interior of the building surprises visitors with a spacious display area that extends underground. The diversity of the works on display ranges from Swabian Impressionism of the 19th century to Classical Modernism and post-1945 art up to the latest contemporary art.
Weissenburgpark is one of Stuttgart’s biggest parks. From the benches on the panorama plateau there’s a marvellous view over Stuttgart’s city centre. On a knoll in the park the Teahouse is a cute photo spot we recommend you to visit.
The restaurant is located in the pedestrian area of Stuttgart next to the Market Hall. We can recommend a visit especially in spring and summer, as you can sit outside. Perfect for a good lunch after sightseeing!
If you like going to local restaurants to get a feel for the local cuisine, this is a place you would love. Perfect Swabian dishes in a traditional setting.
Probably the best place in Stuttgart to grab a quick bite. An urban chic location with amazing vegan and vegetarian options!
This cube-shaped, all-glass restaurant offers fantastic views of the Schlossplatz and serves some of the most delicious dishes in town. The contemporary and international cuisine of this restaurant will leave you speechless!
One of the oldest restaurants in Stuttgart with an excellent Swabian kitchen and great service, located just off the charming and super traditional Bohnenviertel.
We spent two nights in Aloft Stuttgart and felt very at home. The hotel opened only a few years ago and is therefore still fairly new. Located right next to the Stadtbibliothek (City Library) and not far from the main train station (Hauptbahnhof), Aloft Stuttgart has the U-Bahn Subway station called “Stadtbibliothek” almost right at the doorstep.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, and we loved that the hotel was quiet, even though it was right downtown. Breakfast was excellent, with both German and continental options. On our next visit to Stuttgart, we’ll stay here again without a doubt.
